24.07.08 - Avolution to present at EAC'08 in Sydney

Avolution, the market leader in metrics-based analysis of architectures, today announced that it will present at the sixth annual BTell Enterprise Architecture Conference in Sydney, Australia. The conference will be held from the 1st - 5th September, 2008.

Founder and Principal at Avolution, Mark Denford, will co-deliver a presentation titled "Case Study: Avoiding 'Anecdotal Architecture'". Mark will co-present the case study along with Laurence Edge, of Resultex, New Zealand.

Case Study: Avoiding 'Anecdotal Architecture'

"Anecdotal Architecture" describes the situation where the repository for standards and patterns is embodied in the minds of a few key individuals.

This presentation will present a case study of a project undertaken for one of NZ's largest organisations (with a turnover >$1 billion) to review and introduce EA disciplines to control a large and complex IT infrastructure, that included more that 150 key business applications at the commencement of the project. With a long term aim of achieving a dramatic reduction in IT investment and operating costs, the use of architectural modelling techniques to evaluate the myriad of possible alternatives is crucial to the process.

This presentation will briefly cover the tool and Enterprise Modelling (EM) method used to build a model, aspects of the resulting Framework and the structure and connectedness of the Repository. We will also introduce some innovative techniques (including descendant architectures, capability space charts and trade-off diagrams) used to analyse and communicate the trade-offs and benefits of various enterprise-wide initiatives, alternatives or solutions across people, processes and technology.
