17.05.10 - ABACUS presented at London EA Summit
Avolution, provider of the market leading ABACUS® solution for enterprise modelling and the metrics-based planning and analysis, today announced that Avolution client, London Underground, keynote presented on some of their experiences with Enterprise Architecture and ABACUS at the Enterprise Architecture Summit in London.Stephen White and Nigel Dix of London Underground delivered a presentation titled "HEURISTICS-BASED ENTERPRISE MODELLING AT LONDON UNDERGROUND".
Heuristics-based Enterprise Modelling at london Underground.
London Underground (LU) manages over 250 stations, 400km of track and over 1 billion passenger journeys per year.
Recently, following it’s acquisition of MetroNet Rail, LU have had to integrate and rationalise its information systems.
This was guided by using an Enterprise Modelling (EM) approach outlined in this presentation. Topics also covered include:
- Enterprise Architecture (EA) versus Enterprise Modelling (EM).
- Managing service and application portfolios using heuristics and metrics.
- SOA and BPM in an EM/EA context.

About Avolution
Avolution provides the ABACUS® solution which is unique to the enterprise modelling space in that it can create multiple solution
alternatives (architectures) and then run various simulations (Discrete Event, Monte Carlo etc) against each alternative for
metrics such as Performance, Cost and Availability. In so doing it can recommend the optimal path for investment, with
predictive and quantitative certainty. More information is available at www.avolution.eu.
- Build any number of solution alternatives and views, all according to a completely flexible meta-model, importing from MS Visio, MS Excel and many other formats.
- Analyse your architecture(s) for metrics such as; Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Performance, Availability, Agility and many more.
- View the architecture(s) and the results of any evaluation using advanced techniques such as; 3D, heat maps, timelines, lifecycles, capability spaces and trade-off diagrams.
